NOTICE OF REQUIRED BOAT INSPECTIONS

FOR GOLDEN MUSSELS

We have received the following condition of our permit for all boats launching for our Regatta. The National Park Service has indicated they will have inspectors at the Brandy Creek Marina. Hopefully we can get all boats cleared to launch prior to our Skippers Meeting. We appreciate your understanding and help in keeping our beautiful Whiskeytown Lake protected from this invasive species.

“Boats that have been in other water bodies in counties known to be contaminated with Golden Mussels need to be washed thoroughly, drained, and dried for at least 30 days before entering Whiskeytown Lake. Boats that have been in any other waterbody outside of Whiskeytown, Shasta, Trinity, or Lewiston Lakes must have been washed thoroughly, drained, and dried for at least 5 days before entering Whiskeytown Lake. When departing any water body, it is required to remove all dirt, plants, and water from boats including live bait wells, bilges and ballasts. Dispose of all bait in the trash and never transport between lakes. Vessels will be inspected by park employees or concession staff prior to being launched and any boats with undrained water or signs of invasive species will not be allowed to launch. When trailering, the bilge, ballast, wells, and buckets shall be drained prior to leaving parking area.”

They are working with us to make sure these inspections happen timely. Here is the schedule to help with your arrival at the lake:

Thursday 9am to 5pm stop by Visitor's Center on your way in

Friday 9am to 2pm Visitor's Center

Friday 2pm to 5pm Brandy Creek Marina

Saturday 7am to 9am Brandy Creek Marina

Hopefully all inspections can get done before the skipper's meeting at 9am on Saturday so we can get started on time. They will have "mussel sniffing dogs" on site at the Marina to expedite the inspections. How cool is that?!!

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we keep our beautiful Whiskeytown Lake free of this invasive species.
